85*c???
Thats the danger zone, any higher and it will fry it...

if you can turn the voltage down a bit, and get a new heatsink...Also make sure all your fans are blowing the right way.
I know for athlon64's that 80*c is the MAX, as in any higher and it will fry....

My pc just poops itself and shuts down. Heating problem. Not sure why, I've installed 5 fans now, have an open case and pretty nice specs (I'm at work sorry no exact info). But basically, I've upgraded my PSU, RAM, Video card all to very nice standards and my p.c. is still on the border of spontaneously combusting. It's just when I run GW my PSU uses max power but my wifes does not ? We both have very similiar specs (hers is a 3200 AMD mine is a 2800 but upgraded components). For now, the room fan blowing into an open cased, 5 fan $3000.00 computer seems to work. Isn't that some shit, all that money spent on upgrading and fans and a $20.00 roomfan solves my problems...

Talking RAM problems

If it helps anyone - I noticed another forum discussing GW being fussy about differing types of ram, prior to Christmas I installed an additional 256 DDR ram (taking it up to 768). I have had the crashing problems about every five minutes, I've read all the suggestions & in the end I decided to take out the 256 ram I put in.
Everything is now running perfect, even on highest setting - my PC is quite old
AMD Athalon 1.67 ghz
512 DDR ram (now)
colorpower raedeon 9800 pro graphics card (256 meg)

It's worth a shot taking out any differing ram if you've installed any recently.
hope it helps someone
ps - also changed the setting on my virtual memory - boosted it up a bit.

This game only crashes only with my Ti 4200 card. It works fine with a GeForce 2.. what could that mean?

Same problem... worked fine during beta.

Windows XP
Athlon XP 2200+
Radeon 9600 XT
512 Ram

someone said disabling their second monitor worked, I'm giving that a try now.

It could mean your Ti 4200 card is bust. I have a Ti 4400 card in one machine and it runs the game fine, using old 56.72 drivers which I've never bothered to update on that machine because eveything runs well with them. I have a Geforce 5950 Ultra on my main machine and that runs the game well too. I had some initial crashes with this game as well as with other games on the main machine but have at last traced the problem to a poorly connected sound card.

I'd suggest you check the Ti 4200 card carefully, make sure it's installed properly and preferably has a spare slot next to it for maximum ventilation and with no IRQ conflicts. If possible, try it in another computer and see if you have the same problem then in which case the card could well be bust. Try it with different drivers too, the newest aren't always the best.

OK, turning off my second monitor doesn't help at all... This sucks. My friends are gonna stop playing by the time I'm able to play.

Put it in my other machine and it still crashes. But with my other machine I can play at least for a few minutes.

Has anyone actually gotten any support from a technician? I got a reply from GM Susan. She asked me to send a DirectX diagnostic. Haven't gotten a reply yet.

I removed one of my two memories and the game goes without freez/restart/blue screen. I dont know where the problem is, maybe dual channel DDR causing it. Both memories are ok (memtest, prime 95).

I am having the exact same problems as some others in this thread, except I am using older stuff to try and play. Basically the game stutters a bit from the beginning, and after I create a character it starts to stutter a bit more randomly, then my computer just restarts on its own.

I have:
Windows XP Pro SP1
Intel P4 1.7
Geforce4 Ti 4200
768 meg RAM
SB Audiogy

I have tried pretty much everything in this thread, including the different drivers posted, and I still have this problem. I used that program to give a detailed hardware listing to their tech support and have yet to hear a response. This really sucks, as I only have time to play games on the weekend, and I had been looking forward to this all week (just bought it the second Best Buy opened this morning) and all I have done is create a character.

The beta ran perfectly for me, so I don't see why this is so hard for them to fix. I pretty much see everyone mentioning how the beta had run fine, so the problem must be in something that they changed...

EDIT: I tried this on my 1ghz Sony Vaio laptop and it ran without locking up. The problem was even at the lowest settings I get less than 1 fps due to the crummy video card in there (it is a generic intel vid card that uses system memory for video I think, it is SLOW).

Since I have an older computer I would be tempted to buy a new one if I knew it would just run the game fine, but there doesn't seem to be any common thing between everyone that is having the problem, other than we were all pretty much able to run the beta just fine at some point.

Default First response this morning

I'm just gonna post it right off...

"Hello Magnus,

Thanks for contacting the Guild Wars customer support team. We received your ticket in regards to reboots and freezes. After reviewing your problem, we suggest you to follow the steps listed below to resolve the problem you are experiencing:

- Download and install the latest drivers for all your system components (Sound, Mainboard). You can get these drivers from the website of the corresponding manufacturer.

- Update your graphics drivers. Make sure you use the latest retail drivers for your card. Do not use Beta- or outdated drivers as these are likely to cause major problems.

Please uninstall your current graphics drivers by using Driver Cleaner. Download Driver Cleaner at http://www.drivercleaner.net/dc.htm . Install and launch the program. In the drop-down menu select your cards manufacturer and then click on the clean button. Be sure to also look for any other manufacturers names that you may have had installed on this system at one time in the past. Reboot your computer and continue to install the latest drivers you can get from your manufacturers homepage (For example www.ati.com or www.nividia.com )

- We also recommend you install the Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, as this might be the cause of the problems you experience. You can get this Service Pack via the Auto-Update thats included in your Windows, or from the official Microsoft Homepage (www.microsoft.com). Please refer to your Windows Help for additional information on how to update your Windows.

- Furthermore, make sure that your computer is completely free from malicious software like viruses or Trojans, as well as Ad- and Spyware. We recommend you use the following (free) programs:
o AdAware SE 1.05 ( http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-...bj=dl&tag=top5 )
o AntiVir ( http://www.free-av.com )

- We strongly advise you, not to overclock any of your systems components, when trying to run Guild Wars, as this is known to cause major problems.

- If you are using an onboard sound system, please create an additional Shortcut to Guild Wars on your Desktop. Right-Click and select Properties. In the field Target, please add the attribute --nosound. Depending on the path you installed Guild Wars in, it should look something like this:

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" --nosound

This will run Guild Wars without sound. If the problems you were experiencing should be resolved with this change, we advise you to update your systems sound-driver (normally included in your mainboards chipset driver. Please refer to your mainboard manual for additional information), and follow the steps listed below:

1) Right-Click on the speaker icon in the taskbar
2) Select Adjust audio properties
3) Under Speaker settings, click [ADVANCED]
4) Select the Performance tab
5) Under Hardware Acceleration, move the slider one notch to the left from Full towards None

Try to run Guild Wars with sound enabled. If you still should experience the same problems, please repeat the steps above.

- Check, that you have enough space on your harddrives to support your systems pagefile. In general, you should have at least 1 GB of free space on your system-partition.

This should resolve the problem you are experiencing. If it does not, please let us know and we will work with you further to resolve the issue.

Regards,
GM Dorian

Hopefully it'll help some of you, I've only done a few things of the above yet and it's still rebooting. I'm gonna do this slow, one thing at a time to really narrow it down.

Defragged all drives before going out (also upgraded chipset drivers) but it "only gave me" 30minutes, no improvement.
I can almost swear that this is Audigy/sound code related somehow...
I'm gonna run a few tests tonight or in the morning.
I'll be back

Try remove one of system memories, if you have more than 2 moduls, I did so and no crashes now.
